Gentian House was probably designed by James MacLaren around 1890. It was built by Sir Donald to house his generators, and was converted into a house after being a study centre when Garth was a Youth Hostel. It is in a similar style to Glenlyon Farmhouse, Kirkton Cottages at Fortingall and Aberfeldy Town Hall (all of 1889).
