Volume 10: Winter 2011-12

The Society's tenth Journal is devoted to Thomas MacLaren, James M MacLaren's youngest brother. Articles on his early work as an architect appeared in Volume 4 of this Journal. Here we look at his accomplishment in drawing and painting in watercolour with Alan Calder's introduction to the sketches he made as a student and young architect; along with this we publish a catalogue of his surviving sketches, drawings and watercolours, and finish with a copy of his will, in which he paid particular attention to what would happen to this work of his youth. We also include an extract from the Journal Thomas submitted to the Royal Institute of British Architects as part of his Pugin Travelling Scholarship in 1887.
